Graduated in Business Administration from La Salle University in Mexico with a specialization in Human Resources Strategy from the University of Harvard, is certified as an International Life & Leadership Coach by the ILC Academy.
Since October 2020, is the first President of the board of the Chilean-Australian Chamber of Commerce (AUSCHAM), and since April 2022 is the President of the Mining Competency Council. Sofia was recognized as one of 2021’s 100 Inspiring Women in Mining Chile, in the Leadership category.
Currently, as Vicepresident of People and Organization in Anglo American, she is part of an exciting purpose that seeks to reimagine mining to improve people's lives, promoting an inclusive and diverse culture, leading organizational transformation and talent development to encourage and support high performance and innovative thinking. As a People leader, she believes that people are vital to business success and seeks to inspire them to deliver sustainable value that make a real difference, ensuring a successful and responsible operation.
Before Anglo American, Sofia worked at Orica as VP of Human Resources for Latin America, based in Santiago Chile; previously, in Kantar Millward Brown she was responsible for the Human Resource area for Europe based in London and for Latin America based in Mexico City; previously, in AstraZeneca she held Human Resources roles in the UK, USA and Mexico. Sofia has developed various roles within Human Resources in companies such as House of Fuller, Kraft General Foods and Warner Lambert. Her extensive career in different countries and industries has given her an inclusive and global perspective.
