Ph.D. And M.Sc in Computer Science from the University of the Basque Country (Spain) ,Mechanical Engineer from EAFIT University (Colombia). In 1998 I was student researcher in the LSFA (Large Scale Flexible Automation Lab) of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA). My B.Sc. dissertation was selected as candidate for the national excellence prize finalising as one of the runner-ups. Upon finalization of my B.Sc. I started as lecturer at EAFIT University teaching both CAD/CAM Systems (Computational Geometry) and Conceptual Design. In 2003 I moved to Spain and started working in an applied research centre in the Basque country in topics related to Advanced Manufacturing.
I participated and led different projects for the Basque government, Spanish ministry of trade and commerce and the EU Commission. The bulk of my recent work is centred in the implementation and support of novel initiatives like Industry 4.0, IIoT and connectivity in manufacturing environments.
In 2007 I was invited researcher at the University of Newcastle (Australia) returning in 2011 with a Marie Curie research visitor grant funded by the EU Commission.
I have experience as seasonal lecturer at UPV/EHU (Spain) and Gdańsk University of Technology (Poland). I have co-directed three PhD thesis and several Master and B.Sc students. My publications record is represented in 60+ published articles in high impact Journals and conferences. I have a certification in OPC/OPCUA, DDS and Cloudera.
In 2017 I joined A*Star Singapore at their Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC) as senior architect and research scientist for the Factory of the Future initiative which is the effort of Singapore government for implementing a model factory that includes the concepts of the 4th industrial revolution. In such role I had to engage many relevant companies from the manufacturing and IT domain, as well as end users in the aerospace, oil and gas and FMCG industries. In 2021 I joined Vicomtech as Principal Researcher and Line Head of Virtual Engineering and Simulation. In such role I also coordinated the activities of the Digital Twin Consortium branch in Spain.
Currently I'm working at NTT Data Europe and Latam where I'm supporting Digital Twin initiatives in different domains.
