Emily Thorn Corthay is founder & CEO of Thorn Associates. Over Emily’s 20-year career in industrial decarbonization and energy management, she has assisted her clients in achieving over $100 million in implemented energy savings and reduction in over 500,000 tonnes of CO2e. Emily has acted as project manager, technical reviewer, and energy/sustainability engineer for over 80 energy & decarbonization projects in 15+ countries. The Association of Energy Engineers’ 2020 International Energy Engineer of the Year Award was bestowed upon Emily.
Her broad scope of work includes decarbonization strategies, greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories, climate risk assessments, energy audits, , 3rd party owner’s engineer reviews, energy design reviews, energy efficiency and GHG reduction improvement projects, energy management information systems, and measurement and verification of energy and GHG savings. Emily was also a team member for Canada’s first pilot advisory program aimed at helping manufacturers achieve the ISO 50001 energy management standard.
Emily is past Director of Energy Optimization and Management at Hatch Ltd., an international engineering consulting firm, chaired the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers’ (OSPE’s) Energy Task Force for 5 years and served as an elected Director of the Board of OSPE (2016-2019). Emily was awarded the 2021 OSPE President’s volunteer award.
Emily is a Professional Engineer with a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
