Khushaal Popli is an accomplished analytics manager at Teck Resources, overseeing the development of Data Science-based solutions for Mineral Processing and refining circuits across North and South America. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Alberta in 2017, where he focused on enhancing Machine Learning and Advanced Process Control algorithms for mining operations. His research interests lie in the areas of Virtual Instrumentation, Real-time Optimization, Data-driven, and first principle-based modeling and simulation.
During his Ph.D., Khushaal actively collaborated with Operations of diverse Oil & Gas and Mining companies to develop Proof-of-concept applications utilizing Machine Learning and advancing the Digitization journey. At Teck Resources, he has successfully led multiple projects with talented team members to optimize critical circuits such as Crushing, Grinding, and Flotation, resulting in a tangible increase in overall metal production with the introduction of first-of-its-kind Machine Learning Models and Optimization frameworks.
In addition to his technical expertise, Khushaal plays a pivotal role in developing and implementing the Digital Transformation journey for Teck Resources through its RACE program. He has published multiple articles on Machine Learning and Real-time optimization for mineral processing, and his work has been presented at numerous conferences across North America.
