About MICA
The Mining Innovation Commercialization Accelerator (MICA) Network was created on July 9, 2021, through an investment of $40 million from the Government of Canada’s Strategic Innovation Fund. MICA is a $112.4 million pan-Canadian initiative bringing together stakeholders from a wide range of fields to accelerate the development and commercialization of innovative technologies to make the mining sector more productive and sustainable.
MICA is a National ecosystem initiative designed to modernize mining and improve its productivity and environmental performance, strengthen the Canadian mineral supply chain, and increase the domestic and export sales of Canadian innovators
Our vision is to connect regional mining clusters to cross-sector innovation centres across the country to create a National Network to commercialize innovations in the mining industry and use the Canadian advantage of SME-based innovations to create a National mining technology ecosystem.
By accelerating the development and commercialization of innovative and clean technologies in the mining sector, the initiative is expected to extend the operational life of existing mines and reduce the time it takes to being new mineral deposits into production.
MICA operates across the country with the support of the following main partners: the Bradshaw Research Initiative for Minerals and Mining, Innotech Alberta, Saskatchewan Polytechnic, MaRS, Groupe MISA and the College of the North Atlantic

CEMI builds capacity that allows for the acceleration of innovations in the global mining industry. Working with innovators and guiding them to access end-users. CEMI’s strategic focus helps to generate a greater economic value for mines through technologies, processes, and practices to improve the safety, performance, and capacity of mines.
