Dr Soheil Koushan is a Data Scientist at BHP, working within Western Australia Iron Ore (WAIO) Geoscience. He specialises in machine learning, spectral analysis, and predictive modelling, developing calibration models, QAQC pipelines, and real‑time analytical tools to improve ore characterisation and operational decision‑making. In 2025, he received the BHP Geoscience Award for his contributions to the moisture prediction project. He has experience working across operational and remote operations environments, applying data engineering and analytics to improve real‑time visibility, system reliability, and decision support across complex iron ore value chains. Soheil holds a PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics from the University of Western Australia and brings a strong combination of scientific rigour, engineering capability, and practical innovation to mining analytic.
