Speaker Bio
Yuksel Asli Sari is an Associate Professor at the Robert M. Buchan Department of Mining at Queen’s University in Kingston, Canada, where she leads the Intelligent Mining Systems (IMS) lab. Dr. Sari specializes in developing mathematical models and machine learning approaches to solve complex optimization, safety and sustainability challenges in the mining industry. In her research group, she focuses on sustainable mineral production across mining and mineral processing systems, mine planning optimization and mine safety. She has developed tools for open pit mine planning (finding pit limits, block extraction sequencing and block routing) and stope optimization (stope layout planning, stope sequencing). Additionally, she has designed mathematical models for dig-limit optimization, open pit mine planning with landfilling option and stope boundary determination. Recognized on the prestigious 100 Women in Mining list in 2024, Dr. Sari continues her research and teaching activities aimed at safer, smarter, more efficient and sustainable mining systems.
