Ankita is a graduate data scientist at Rio Tinto within the PACE Analytics Team. She completed her Bachelor’s in Petroleum Engineering and Ph.D. at the School of Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering, UNSW, Sydney. She recently won the Dean’s award for Outstanding PhD Thesis titled – ‘Computer vision and texture analysis for characterization of X-ray images of rocks’ and the Best Student Engineering Paper at the AEGC 2019 in Perth, and Research Student Award. Ankita has had previous internship experiences as a data scientist and petroleum engineer at Woodside energy. She also volunteers her time in maintaining open-source rock x-ray images repository called the ‘DigitalRocksPortal’. The unknown, technology and scale of resources sector are the three ingredients for her career.
