Sam started his career in mining as a process technician. Although he holds a Batchelor of Science in Molecular Biology, he developed a passion for the pursuit of knowledge in process control and optimization. Accomplishments in the last 10 years have been centralized around implementation of advanced control strategies across multiple mineral process systems most notably in flotation. As the Process Specialist at New Gold’s New Afton mine he is immersed in all aspects of mineral processing focusing primarily on machine learning integration in grinding, flotation, and thickened and amended tailings. He employees control strategies throughout the concentrator adapting expert systems, Delta V, and Python to improve performance.
