Aart obtained his MSc in Structural Geology (University of Pretoria) in 1998. He also holds a valid National Blasting License for Metalliferous Mines (1999) and is an accredited Master Black Belt in the Lean Six Sigma continuous improvement methodology (2006).
He started his 36-year career in South Africa’s coal mining industry, moving to the Bushveld Complex platinum mines and then to BHP Billiton’s arctic diamond operations in Canada. His most recent employer is Sedibelo Resources Limited. Aart has worked extensively in underground mines (incline and vertical, shaft sinking and operational) as well as open pit operations. His journey covered mines in Hard- & Soft Rock, Tabular- & Massive ore bodies, as well as a variety of host natures: Sedimentary, Metamorphic, Shear Zones & Igneous. He has been fulfilling several roles in Technical, Production, and Process Improvement, both strategically and as an operator.
