Pre-Conference Workshop: Responsible AI Leadership in Mining

Leading AI Transformation: Decision-Making, Trust & Responsible Innovation

As AI becomes embedded across mining operations, leaders are increasingly being asked to make decisions where there is no obvious right answer. How much should we trust an AI recommendation? When should human judgement override the machine? Who is accountable when an AI-enabled decision goes wrong? And how do leaders maintain trust when AI changes the way people work?

This interactive workshop explores the leadership challenges that emerge when AI moves from experimentation into real organisational decision-making. Participants will work through realistic scenarios involving productivity, safety, workforce impacts, accountability and organisational trust, using practical frameworks to assess difficult choices and navigate uncertainty.

Through facilitated discussions, case studies, decision-making exercises and peer debate, participants will test their own leadership approach, challenge assumptions and develop practical tools they can immediately apply to AI initiatives within their organisations.

  • Knowing when to trust AI, challenge AI or override AI
  • Making responsible decisions when productivity, safety and people are in conflict
  • Building trust and accountability when AI changes how work gets done
  • Leading difficult organisational conversations around AI adoption and workforce impact
  • Balancing speed of innovation with responsible, long-term value
