Giacomo Alampi Sottini is currently the Enterprise Architect for Roy Hill, located in Perth, Western Australia.
In his current role he is a technical leader who specialises in enterprise architecture and digital transformation. Giacomo has a long history of working in automation and technology projects for the mining industry. While working in lead roles at BHP as Manager Technical Services and previously as Manager Technology Design & Architecture, he led the teams that designed the iron ore production systems. This journey that enabled data-driven decision making started with a large OSISoft PI installation, followed by several projects related to production scheduling and material tracking.
Giacomo introduced new technologies and novel approaches to improve productivity for example, whilst at BHP he submitted a patent for a distributed mining system using artificial intelligence techniques to control mining activities.
He is proficient in navigating an always-evolving technology landscape creating the conditions for successful delivery of complex initiatives. He is a long standing board member of the Cancer Council of WA, involved with medical research and how data, artificial intelligence and automation can be used to achieve critical clinical outcomes more efficiently.
Giacomo Alampi holds a MEng in Software Engineering from the Florence University of Engineering, Italy.
